Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a unit of Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited, has took a giant leap forward in promoting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. Concluding a month-long Pride Month campaign that engaged over 2,000 employees, business partners, and local community members, the company reinforced its commitment to creating a workspace where everyone can thrive with dignity.
0 Breaking Barriers with Strong Policies
To systematically bridge existing gaps and promote equitable opportunities, BALCO has introduced groundbreaking policies tailored for transgender employees:
Education Support Policy: Offers financial assistance of up to INR 1 lakh for employees pursuing professional higher education after completing 18 months of service.
Gender Reaffirmation Policy: Provides 30 days of paid leave along with financial assistance of up to INR 2 lakh for gender reaffirmation surgery.
So far, seven employees have successfully benefited from these initiatives. Currently, BALCO proudly employs 21 transgender individuals across core manufacturing functions, including material handling, forklift operations, and security.

Devsena, a transgender employee who joined BALCO after her B.Tech, shared her inspiring journey:

0 A Month of Action and Awareness
The month-long celebration featured a vibrant Pride March across the township to promote allyship. Additionally, in collaboration with the Department of Posts, Government of India, BALCO organized a Financial Well-being Awareness Session to drive financial independence among employees.

Throughout the campaign, BALCO’s dedicated DE&I mascot, DiversiDI, led the charge by spreading awareness messages, quizzes, and educational content, ensuring that the spirit of inclusion is felt in everyday workplace experiences.
